ROCKLAND, Maine — Benjie Blake, the assistant recreation director for the city for nearly 20 years, will serve as the sports and camping director at the Penobscot Bay YMCA’s Rockland Harbor branch.
Blake is slated to oversee many of the services that the Rockland Recreation Department historically has offered including, youth soccer, basketball and summer camp, the YMCA announced in a press release issued Thursday. In addition, Blake will play an important role in the YMCA’s plans to offer new programs and services to the community, the news release stated.
The YMCA signed an agreement with the city of Rockland earlier this month to run the city program beginning Oct. 1.
“Benjie’s experience working within the Recreation Department will be a key factor which will ensure that this transition is as smooth as possible,” Troy Curtis, chief executive officer for Penobscot Bay YMCA, stated in the release.
Blake grew up in the Old Town area and received a degree in kinesiology and physical education while attending the University of Maine.
