CORINNA, Maine — A Lisbon man is dead and his wife injured after an all-terrain vehicle they were riding flipped on a local road, according to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department.

The accident happened around 5:30 p.m. Saturday as Thomas Hughes, 61, and Tracy Hughes, 58, were riding on Lincoln Mills Road, Sgt. William Birch said Sunday afternoon. He said the couple appeared to have been attempting a U-turn when the accident occurred.

“They tried to turn around in the roadway and misjudged the depth of a ditch, causing the ATV to roll,” Birch said.

Birch said he was unsure of Tracy Hughes’ injuries but said they are not believed to be life-threatening. He did not know where she was taken for medical treatment, he added.

Speed and alcohol are not considered factors in the the accident, which remains under investigation, according to Birch.
