ORONO, Maine — The University of Maine field hockey team improved to 9-2 over the weekend after a 2-1 win over Northeastern on Sunday and an 8-0 victory over Bryant on Saturday.
On Sunday, Maine’s Marissa Shaw scored off a rebound five minutes into the second half to give the Black Bears the winning edge. Jessica Skillings assisted on the goal.
Sydney Veljacic put Maine on the board at 13:21 into the game off a Casey Crowley assist, via a rebound.
The Huskies equalized on Vanessa Pryor’s unassisted goal at 34:14.
Emma Cochran (four saves) and Emily Corbett (six) split time in goal for the Bears while Becky Garner made three for NU, which outshot Maine 15-14 and had a 12-3 advantage on penalty corners.
On Saturday in Smithfield, Rhode Island, Crowley recorded three goals for a hat trick and scored two of Maine’s three first-half goals as the Black Bears rolled to the win.
Veljacic also contributed two goals for the Black Bears, both in the second half, while Katie Bingle, Libby Riedl and Skillings each added a goal. Danielle Aviani chipped in with two assists and Ella Mosky had one.
Corbett had one save for Maine and Marissa Elizardo had nine for Bryant (2-8).
Husson 7, Colby-Sawyer 2
At New London, New Hampshire, on Saturday, Britt Mellor scored two goals and recorded an assist to lead the Eagles of Bangor by the Chargers.
Mikayla Toth chipped in with a goal and two assists for Husson (2-5 overall, 1-0 North Atlantic Conference), which scored four unanswered second-half goals. Libby Kain, Lauren Russell, Hanna Jordan and Taylor Shaw each added a goal.
Paige Viens and Allyson Mullen each scored a goal for the Chargers (4-4).
Anne Marie Provencal (one save) and Kaitlin Dolloff split time in goal for Husson while Jodi Dumayne made nine saves for Colby-Sawyer).
UMF 5, NEC 0
At Farmington on Saturday, Mara Balboni gave UMaine-Farmington a 1-0 first-half lead and then added a second goal during its four-goal second-half outburst in the win over New England College.
LeeAnne Greenleaf, Sarita Crandall and Jenessa Talarico each added a goal for UMF (5-1, 1-0) while Lindsey Whitney, Rebecca Young and Delainey each contributed an assist.
Patty Smith made two saves for UMF and MIchaela Clark had five for NEC (2-8, 0-1).

At Farmington on Saturday, Maine Maritime Academy’s Susana DeFrank scored off a Lauren McKenna pass two minutes into second to tie the game and it stayed that way through two overtime periods.
UMaine-Farmington’s Ashley Gleason scored the game’s first goal in the first half courtesy of a Lillian LaRochelle assist.
Sam Hatch saved 11 shots for UMF (2-4-1, 0-1-1) with Maggie McConkey recording seven saves for MMA of Castine (1-5-1, 0-1-0).
Thomas 4, Lyndon St. 1
At Lyndon Center, Vermont, on Saturday, Bronte Howorth scored two of her team’s first-half goals as the Terriers of Waterville surged to a 3-0 lead to record the win.
Cassie Contigiani added the third first-half goal and assisted on Kajsa Kaufeldt’s goal in the 78th minute. Paige Leary finished with seven saves.
Jordan Manning scored a late goal for Lyndon State and Johanna Sargent made nine saves.
Colby-Sawyer 2, Husson 1
At New London, New Hampshire, on Saturday, Rachel Quaye scored two goals to lift the Chargers by the Eagles of Bangor.
Quaye scored at the 21st minute and 62nd minute before Husson responded at the 72nd minute when Taylor Forin blasted in a shot from 20 yards out.
Kayla Gordon made three saves for Husson (3-4-1, 0-2) while Karley Hamilton had one for Colby-Sawyer (3-2-2, 2-0).
Colby 5, UMF 0
At Waterville on Sunday, Colby scored four second-half goals to roll by UMaine-Farmington.
Catherine Fraser scored a first-half goal for Colby (2-3-1) and then the Mules scored four goals in the game’s final 22:40.
Katherine Gillespie, Aliza Ban Leesten, Emily Martin and Laura Arnold scored during the surge.
Ashley Conley made two saves for Colby and Sam Hatch had 14 for UMF (2-5-1).
MMA 4, UMPI 0
At Castine on Sunday, Tori Cooper scored three goals for a hat trick to lead Maine Maritime Academy by UMaine-Presque Isle.
Cooper opened up the scoring for the Mariners in the fifth minute when she dribbled around a defender and snuck the ball in the right corner, past Owl keeper Allie Lopez.
Cooper set up the next goal via a corner kick to Makayla Lewis, who curled her shot into the center on the net. Emily Wyman assisted on Cooper’s third goal and Kylie Bradley assisted on the fourth.
Maggie McConkey had one save for MMA and Lopez made 13 for UMPI.

At Farmington on Saturday, Henry Hersey scored for Maine Maritime Academy from a Tristan Richards assist two minutes into the game, but Ibrahim Achekh equalized for UMaine-Farmington when he converted a Luke Sterling pass four minutes into the second half as teams settled for a double overtime tie.
Matt Wilson recorded nine saves for UMF (3-3-1, 1-0-1) while Joshua Reeks had seven for MMA (1-6-1, 0-1-1).

At Lyndon Center, Vermont, on Saturday, D.J. Nicholas scored the game’s first three goals to help the Terriers of Waterville roll to the win.
Kyle Fletcher chipped in with two goals and Tre Ming added one.

At New London, New Hampshire, on Saturday, Denali Sexton’s goal from an Anthony Romeo cross at 67:16 gave the Chargers the winning edge as they rallied from a two-goal deficit.
Phil Frost scored two first-half goals for Husson in a 5:22 span, one from a Cam Libbey assist.
Zach Elmore and Noah Camelo answered for Colby-Sawyer with second-half goals to tie it.
Cody Gross made nine saves for Husson (4-3, 1-1) while Sean Babinski had eight for Colby-Sawyer (4-5, 2-0).
