PORTLAND, Maine — A local man has been charged in connection with a string of car burglaries from earlier this summer, city police announced Friday.

Scott Hurd, 36, is facing four Class C felony charges of motor vehicle burglary, Portland Assistant Chief Vernon Malloch said.

Hurd was already at the Cumberland County Jail on unrelated charges when detectives charged him, Malloch said.

Approximately 30 vehicles had windows broken and cash stolen that evening, according to Malloch.

Hurd remained in county lockup Friday on $15,000 bail. Additional charges are expected.
