LAGRANGE, Maine — Combustible material that was too close to a heat source was cited as the cause of a fire that heavily damaged a two-story house Monday on Bennoch Road.
The fire began about 7:30 a.m., when stockade fencing that was leaning against a stove exhaust pipe ignited, Sgt. Joel Davis of the state fire marshal’s office said Tuesday.
The home is a former parsonage that had undergone several renovations and additions over the decades. The fire left three adults and two children without a home, LaGrange firefighter Jen Baker said Monday.
Though no one suffered serious injury, a few firefighters suffered heat exhaustion while battling Monday’s blaze, Baker said. No one required a trip to the hospital, she said.
Baker said that the house is insured and that the family who lived there will be staying with family members. She said the Red Cross has been called to assist the family.
