GORHAM, Maine – Freshman Ashley Gleason recorded a goal and an assist in a three-goal first half to lead the University of Maine-Farmington Beavers to a 4-1 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference women’s soccer game Tuesday.

UMF struck early and led 2-0 before 10 minutes had expired in the game. Freshman Lydia Roy tapped in a goal in the sixth minute on a Gleason assist to give the Beavers the 1-0 early advantage.

Gleason added an unassisted goal about four minutes later and Katie Clark also scored unassisted at 16:29 for a 3-0 first-half lead.

Ariana Davidson answered for USM off a Jessica Preble pass at the 59:25 mark, but Bridget Humphrey scored for UMF via penalty kick at 88:01.

UMF outshot USM 17-11 with Sam Hatch making six saves for UMF and Marissa Temple making five for USM.

UMF snapped a three-game losing streak and is now 3-7-1 and USM is 3-7.

Men’s Soccer

Bowdoin 4, USM 0

At Brunswick, Hunter Miller scored a first-half goal for Bowdoin and the Polar Bears added three more in the second half to beat the University of Southern Maine.

Jake Stenquist, Colton Hall and Moctar Niang each scored in the second half for Bowdoin (4-2-2). Sam Ward, Nick DeStefano and C.J. Masterson each chipped in with an assist. Stevie Van Siclen made one save.

Simon Hulbert finished with 12 saves for USM (1-8-1).

Field Hockey

Bowdoin 4, UMF 0

At Brunswick, Kimmy Ganong recorded two goals and Rachel Kennedy chipped in with a goal and an assist to help the Polar Bears prevail.

Liz Znamierowski added a goal for Bowdoin (8-0) and Kelsey Mullaney had an assist.

Patty Smith made 16 saves for UMF (5-3) and Alyssa Arsenault had three.

St. Joseph’s 1, Thomas 0

At Standish, Bailey Cutler’s goal at the 39:46 mark of the second half gave the Monks the win over the Terriers of Waterville.

Amanda Celata and Hayley Winslow recorded assists on the goal and Megan Baker finished with two saves for St. Joseph’s (7-4).

Abbie Charrier made 15 saves for Thomas (6-6).
