CANTON, Maine — A local man has been charged in an August crash in which he allegedly grabbed the steering wheel and forced a Jeep into a rock wall, according to the Department of Public Safety.

Dale Doughty, 32, was indicted Tuesday by an Androscoggin County grand jury on a charge of domestic violence aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to spokesman Stephen McCausland.

The Jeep was being driven by the woman, whose name was not disclosed. According to troopers, Doughty expected the crash to kill the couple but they survived and have since been released from the hospital, McCausland said.

The crash took place on Aug. 2 on Route 108. Doughty is being held at the Androscoggin County Jail.
