PORTLAND, Maine — Portland police have identified the mother and 3-year-old child who were seriously injured Saturday when they were struck by an SUV while crossing the street.
Namuteto Gracia, 34, and her son, Shema Alexi, of Portland were crossing Auburn Street when they were struck by a 2009 Kia SUV driven by David Branch, 55, also of Portland, Assistant Police Chief Vernon Malloch said Tuesday in a news release.
The mother and child were taken to Maine Medical Center for treatment. Branch was not injured, Malloch said.
The northbound SUV hit the pedestrians as they crossed near 238 Auburn St. at about 7:30 p.m. The vehicle did not appear to be traveling too fast for conditions, police said.
Police continue to investigate. They ask witnesses to the accident to call the Portland Police Department’s Traffic Division at 874-8532.
