HODGDON, Maine — A logging truck that partially overturned on Route 2A in Hodgdon stopped traffic for four hours Tuesday evening.
Larry Belanger, 58, of Mapleton was hauling logs with his 2005 Freightliner tractor-trailer when his rig went off the road at 5:30 p.m. as he attempted to make a left-hand turn off Winship Road onto U.S. Route 2A, according to Sgt. Jeffrey Clark of the Maine State Police.
The rear wheels of Belanger’s log trailer slid down a steep ditch, causing the trailer to roll over on to its driver’s side. The tractor did not completely roll over, but did leak diesel fuel, Clark said.
Both lanes of Route 2A were completely blocked for more than four hours while crews from Westerdahl’s Garage and Brewer’s Garage set the tractor-trailer unit back on its wheels. Belanger was not injured and he was able to drive the rig, which had minimal damage, from the scene.
Trooper Eric Sucy investigated the accident. Speed was not determined to be a factor and no charges were filed in the case. The Maine Department of Environmental Protection was notified because of the diesel spill.
Members of the Maine Department of Transportation and Linneus Fire Department assisted at the scene.
