ELLSWORTH, Maine — A Sullivan man has been indicted on several charges in connection with a fire that damaged the Cordelia Stanwood homestead at the Birdsacre bird sanctuary in Ellsworth last year.
Christopher Kidder, 32, was indicted by a Hancock County grand jury last week on one charge of arson, two counts of aggravated criminal mischief and single counts of burglary, aggravated assault, reckless conduct and assault.
Kidder was arrested by Waterville police in April after he contacted the state fire marshal’s office to turn himself in.
The March 2014 blaze significantly damaged the former home of Stanwood, for whom the bird sanctuary is named.
Kidder has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 2001. He most recently served three years in jail starting in 2007 after pleading guilty to stealing a car and leading police on a chase through Ellsworth.
