HAMPDEN, Maine — A single-vehicle crash on Western Avenue on Thursday morning sent a Bangor woman to the hospital, according to police.

Nancy Craven, 71, was traveling east when she had an apparent medical episode shortly before noon, Hampden police Officer Jeffrey Rice said.

Craven was not wearing a seat belt and was alone in the vehicle, Rice said.

Her vehicle hit an embankment and became airborne before coming to a rest in a ditch, Rice said. The officer said the driver was “going fairly fast” when she hit the embankment.

Craven suffered a back injury, but her injuries are not considered life-threatening, Rice said. She was brought to Eastern Maine Medical Center.

The road was closed for about 20 minutes. Hampden fire and Capital Ambulance assisted Hampden police at the scene.
