YORK, Maine — No one was injured after a kitchen fire caused about $80,000 in damage to a rental home on Wednesday evening.

Firefighters from York Village and York Beach were dispatched to the Moulton Lane home around 5:30 p.m. for the blaze.

According to Dave Apgar, York Village fire investigator, the fire started in the kitchen. He said it appears a family was having dinner and left to attend a school athletic event, but left the stove on with a pan on it.

The kitchen was fully involved by the time firefighters arrived on scene, according to Apgar. He said while firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the kitchen, there was heavy smoke damage to the first and second floors.

Apgar estimated that the home sustained $80,000 worth of damage.
