GORHAM — The University of Southern Maine women’s basketball team will host its annual Huskies’ Shooting Clinic, open to girls in grades 3-10, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, at Costello Sports Complex. The fee is $35 in advance, $45 the day of the clinic. Confirmation of registration will be done via email. Participants will receive instruction and coaching in a variety of drills including a layup series, shooting off the dribble, shooting off the pass, post shooting, creating your own shot, and more. WATERVILLE — The Maine Majestix indoor field hockey tryouts began Oct. 12 at the Alfond Youth Center. Players who have previously participated in the indoor program with Majestix don’t have to attend a tryout but they are encouraged to attend at least one. The schedule is Oct. 19: U-16s (6:30-8), U-19s (8-9:30); Oct. 21: U-19s (6:30-8), U-16s (8-9:30); Oct. 26: U-12s (6:30-8), U-14s (8-9:30); Oct. 28: U-12s (6:30-8), U-14s (8-9:30). ORONO — Registration for all Maine Junior Black Bears youth hockey house divisions is now open. Programs are available for ages 4-18 and include Learn to Skate/Learn to Play in partnership with the University of Maine Hockey teams. Other age groups are Midgets, Bantams, Peewees, Squirts, and Mites. All teams are co-ed and girls can cross-roster for U-12 all-girls team. SIDNEY — Maine Pond Hockey Classic, Feb. 12-14, 2016, at Snow Pond Center for the Arts on Snow Pond (Messalonskee Lake). The site will contain six or more rinks, beer garden, fire pits and food vendors. It will offer seven divisions for players of different ages and ability levels. Each division winner will receive a prize pack. The Maine Pond Hockey Classic is an annual fundraising tournament supporting the Boys and Girls Clubs and YMCA of Greater Waterville. Registration is underway. Interested teams must register prior to Jan. 12, 2016. Each team plays three pool-play games for seeding followed by a single-elimination tournament. Pond hockey is played 4 on 4 without goalies or officials, and each team is allowed to have up to 7 players on their roster. ROAD RACING

BRUNSWICK — The 10th annual Phil Soule 5K “Phlail” has been scheduled for Homecoming Sunday, Oct. 18, at Farley Field House on the campus of Bowdoin College. The free 1/2K Kid’s Fun Run begins at 9:30 a.m.; the 5K race has a $20 entry fee, and will begin at 10 a.m., with online registration available at http://www.GetMeRegistered.com/PhilSoulePhlail. OLD TOWN — The seventh annual Ralph K. Thomas race, composed of road and trail running along the Penobscot River into Old Town, will be held on Sunday, Nov. 1. Hats will be available to the first 75 registrants. Native-made traditional Penobscot baskets will be awarded to the male and female winners.
