PORTLAND, Maine — A Bridgton woman waived indicted Tuesday and admitted in U.S. District Court to stealing prescription pain medications intended for veterans living in Naples.
Kim I. Murch, 59, faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
She is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 3.
By pleading guilty, Murch admitted that while working as a letter carrier in 2011 on a rural route in Naples, she stole or opened mail that contained prescription medications intended for veterans.
After the Veterans Administration received complaints that veterans had not received their drugs, the post office set up hidden cameras in the back room of the Naples post office without telling employees, according to the prosecution version of the offense to which Murch pleaded guilty.
Murch was caught on surveillance video “opening or secreting mail on several occasions,” the court document said. She also lied to investigators when caught.
