SACO, Maine — A 26-year-old Buxton woman died after she was ejected from her vehicle during a two-car crash on Buxton Road, Saco police said Friday in a news release.

The victim was identified as Shannon Carrier, who was driving west in a 2006 Nissan Altima when she apparently crossed the centerline and collided with an eastbound 2008 Honda Ridgeline pickup driven by a 48-year-old man.

Carrier was pronounced dead at the accident site. The man was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland. His medical condition was not immediately known.

His name and hometown are being withheld by police pending confirmation that his family members have been notified.

The crash happened at 11:40 a.m., near the Horton Woods hiking trails beyond Thibodeau Farm, police said.

Buxton Road was closed for more than five hours because of the accident, which caused an extensive amount of debris, police said. Carrier’s vehicle separated into two pieces by the force of the collision.

Police declined to comment on the cause of the accident pending an investigation by an accident reconstruction team.
