PORTLAND, Maine — A Portland woman was sentenced to 1½ years in prison for mail and wire fraud during a hearing Monday in U.S. District Court before Chief Judge Nancy Torresen.
Beth M. Rogers, 46, also was ordered to undergo six years of supervised release upon completing her prison term and to pay nearly $209,000 in restitution.
Rogers pleaded guilty to the charges on March 17.
According to court documents, Rogers operated TravelWise Cruises & Tours, a travel agency in Saco. Beginning in late 2011, Rogers began taking clients’ money without making travel reservations for the clients who had provided the funds.
She instead used the money to pay for the travel of other individuals who had booked travel through TravelWise. She misapplied money from more than 50 clients in this fashion until mid-2012, when her scheme was discovered.
The investigation was conducted by the Saco Police Department and the FBI.
