BRUNSWICK, Maine — Police in Maryland on Tuesday located two teenage girls, one from Bath and one from Brunswick, who left the area early Sunday morning in a car belonging to one of the girls’ mothers.
Police listed the girls, a 14-year-old from Bath and a 16-year-old from Brunswick, as missing with the National Crime Information Center database.
The girls apparently left the area early Sunday morning, Bath police Lt. Robert Savary said Tuesday. Later that morning, police in Cambridge, Massachusetts, contacted Bath police to say the vehicle had been involved in a hit-and-run crash, which was recorded on video, before driving away from the scene.
An earlier report stated that the girls might be headed to South Carolina.
At 12:45 p.m., Savary said the girls had been located in Maryland. They were found in La Plata, Maryland, and the two teens and the vehicle are being detained by the Charles County Sheriff’s Office. Savary said he was not sure of the circumstances.
A spokeswoman for the Charles County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately return a phone call on Tuesday.
