HERMON, Maine — A woodstove is believed to be the cause of a fire that damaged a residence on Route 2 on Tuesday evening, according to officials.
The fire at a one-story residence near the Hermon-Carmel town line was reported shortly before 6 p.m., Hermon Fire Chief Ray Pipes said.
When crews from Hermon and Carmel arrived, they found that a man was still inside the building, Pipes said.
The man, who was not identified, was rescued and taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center. Pipes said the man was initially unresponsive but was alert and active once rescuers got him out.
The man was the only one home, and Pipes said the home’s damage was minor. Levant firefighters also responded.
