MACHIAS, Maine — High tide Thursday afternoon brought about minor flooding in Machias.
Route 1A in front of the Machias Town Hall was closed as of about 12:30 p.m. because of several inches of water.
As high tide approached, people also moved their cars from parking lots situated along the river.
The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings for the coast in York and Cumberland County, and a coastal flood advisory has been issued for the rest of the coast, said Margaret Curtis, a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Gray.
She said the highest report of rainfall for this storm was 3.7 inches in Portland.
Todd Foisy, a forecaster with the NWS Caribou office, said Cherryfield reported the highest amount of rainfall with 4 inches.
However, both said the flooding was caused by high tide, not the rainfall.
“The rainfall we got was not too much out of the ordinary,” Foisy said.
