BELFAST, Maine — A man who allegedly stole a bottle of alcohol last week ended up facing a slew of other charges connected to the incident.

Belfast police said that Heath Prior, 31, of Cushing went to pick up something to drink at about 10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at the Belfast Variety on High Street. Employees called Belfast police to report that he had stuffed a bottle of liquor down his pants and then gave them a hard time when they confronted him about it, according to Detective Sgt. Bryan Cunningham. Prior allegedly gave the responding officers his brother’s name and date of birth instead of his own.

When police later realized who Prior was, they went to the apartment where he was staying to confirm his identity. When there, they reported finding Klonopin, a controlled drug, a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Prior was arrested and charged with failure to give correct name, address and date of birth, theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, possession of a scheduled drug, possession of a usable amount of marijuana, and sale and use of drug paraphernalia.

He was taken to Waldo County Jail.
