ROCKLAND, Maine — A lobster boat broke free of its mooring in Rockland Harbor on Sunday and grounded on shore near Jameson Point.
The boat, the Rockland Gulf, which was described as a lobster smack, is owned by Jamie Steeves of J&J Lobster of Rockland. Steeves was expected to try to get it floated free at high tide on Monday, which was scheduled for shortly after 3 p.m., according to Rockland Harbormaster Ed Glaser.
The owner was using Fields Dive Service of Hope to assist in getting the lobster smack to float free by placing inflatable items under it, the harbormaster said. Glaser said the vessel did not appear to be damaged.
The harbormaster said the vessel had been used for transporting bait and fuel to the islands. Glaser did not know how it broke loose of its mooring in the harbor.
