WELLS, Maine — A Carthage man wanted in connection with a domestic assault in Franklin County was arrested Tuesday at a relative’s residence in Wells, according to Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols.

Bennie Bowie, 47, will be charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault, according to Nichols. He is being held at the Franklin County Jail.

Detective Ken Charles had received information that Bowie may have been in Wells on Tuesday and contacted Wells police, who arrested Bowie on the warrant out of Franklin County.

Bowie is accused of assaulting his girlfriend by slamming her head through the passenger window of his pickup truck during an argument, according to Nichols.

The assault had been reported shortly after midnight Sunday.
