WARREN, Maine — Police say a local man who crashed his car Thursday night ran from the scene and then, when caught, threatened to kill the officer.
Chad E. Sproul, 40, of Warren was arrested by Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputies and charged with operating under the influence, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, failure to report an accident by quickest means, criminal threatening and terrorizing.
The crash occurred at about 7 p.m. on the Western Road. The driver ran after the crash site but was found shortly after deputies arrived, hiding on the side of the road a short distance from the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
Three people in the vehicle were treated by Warren emergency medical services responders for minor injuries and cuts from broken glass.
When found, Sproul threatened to strangle and kill Deputy Scott Redmun, according to Knox County Sheriff Donna Dennison.
Sproul was taken to the Knox County Jail in Rockland, where he remained Friday morning in lieu of $1,500 cash bail.
Sproul is scheduled to make an initial appearance Friday afternoon in Knox County Unified Court.
