FRYEBURG, Maine — An ex-girlfriend says the man accused of killing three people inside an Oakland home on Wednesday before turning the gun on himself threatened her life in 2003, reports Portland television station WGME, CBS 13.

Anna Frankowski said that Herman Derico grew more paranoid over the years, and eventually threatened her life. She said she reported the threat to Fryeburg police in 2003.

That led to a temporary protection from abuse order and before she could get a hearing on a long-term protection order he moved back to California.

Frankowski says she dated Derico for five years and his paranoid behavior gradually got worse.

“There was something not right. Something was definitely not right with him,” Frankowski said. “Finally I was just like I’m done I can’t do this anymore and that’s when he threatened to kill me.”

State police say Derico has no criminal history here in Maine and since the order was not criminal in nature it wouldn’t have shown up.
