ALBANY, New York — For the second consecutive day, the University of Maine’s field hockey team rallied from a 1-0 deficit to advance with a 2-1 overtime victory over Stanford in an America East semifinal Saturday.
Junior forward Danielle Aviani’s goal 4:18 into overtime gave the 19th-ranked Black Bears the win over No. 13 Stanford.
Maine ousted the University of California 2-1 in OT on Friday.
Maine extended its school-record win total to 19 and it will take its 19-3 mark into Sunday’s noon championship game against No. 8 Albany, 18-2.
The teams split regular season games with Maine winning 6-2 in Orono and Albany triumphing 3-1 on its home turf.
It will be Maine’s first America East championship game appearance since 2006.
Aviani scored off a breakaway as she raced into the penalty circle and flipped the ball over Stanford goalie Dulcie Davies.
It was her 11th goal of the season and team-leading fifth game-winner.
Katie Bingle had tied the game 19:38 into the second half off a penalty corner as she ripped a shot past Davis. Libby Riedl and Nicole Sevey picked up assists.
It was Bingle’s fifth goal.
Stanford dictated play in the first half and took a deserved 1-0 lead at the 25:28 mark when Katie Keyser scored during a scramble off a penalty corner. It was her third of the year. Fran Tew assisted on it.
Stanford outshot Maine 10-1 in the first half.
Emily Corbett made six saves in the first half for Maine and Emma Cochran came up with four in the second half.
Davies made one save for the Cardinal.
Stanford, which had an extra day’s rest after beating Vermont 5-2 on Thursday, outshot Maine 21-4 and had eight penalty corners to Maine’s five.

Salve Regina 49, MMA 14
At Newport, Rhode Island, Brandan Basil completed 20 of 25 passes for 239 yards and three touchdowns to spark the Seahawks to a New England Football Conference victory over the Mariners.
Basil threw scoring passes of 15 yards to Garrett Rupe, 11 yards to James Dawson and 5 yards to Mitch Graziano to help Salve Regina (7-1, 5-1 NEFC) outgained Maine Maritime Academy of Castine (2-6, 1-5 NEFC) by a 449-258 margin.
Pascale headed the Seahawks run attack with 120 yards on 24 carries, including TD runs of 2, 11 and 11 yards. Graziano caught six passes for 71 yards and Alex Hulme made seven receptions for 63 yards.
Fullback James Farrar paced MMA with 20 carries for 101 yards and two scores, while quarterback Michael Fahey netted 79 yards on 19 carries and Jacob Doolan had nine attempts for 63 yards.
The Mariners went 0-for-9 through the air.
Ferrar’s 5-yard TD run had tied the game 7-7 during the first minute of the second quarter, but Salve Regina scored six unanswered touchdowns, including three in the second quarter, to take a commanding lead.
Pascale’s 11-yard TD run capped a 65-yard drive to put the Seahawks on top for good at 11:14 of the second quarter. However, the hosts put up 15 points in the final 2:04 of the half.
First, Pascale scored from 11 yards out after Salve Regina recovered an MMA fumble at the Mariners’ 25-yard line. The Seahawks got the ball back with 21 seconds remaining in the quarter, but Basil completed three passes, including a 15-yarder to Rupe as time expired, to extend the lead to 28-7.
Cody Chapman led the MMA defense with nine tackles, while Justin Lovely and Zachary Faskianos (1 sack), posted eight each.
