BANGOR, Maine — U.S. Sen. Angus King was given a tour of the Maine Air National Guard’s 101st Air Refueling Wing’s fire crash and rescue station on Thursday, two days after the Senate approved two bills that would provide $7.2 million in upgrades to the facility.

During his tour, the senator met with and thanked members of the Maine Air National Guard for their service to Maine and to their country.

“Maine’s 101st Air Refueling Wing plays an important role in supporting our national security,” King said. “They deserve to have facilities that adequately meet the demands of their work, and this $7.2 million in federal funding will go a long way in upgrading the fire and rescue building to support the critical operations undertaken there.”

King is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and he worked to secure authorization for the $7.2 million in federal funding as part of the National Defense Authorization Act.

The funding will be used to renovate Building 512 and will be put towards replacing the roof and siding, improving energy efficiency through the use of thermal systems and replacing the HVAC system to improve air quality.

President Barack Obama is expected to sign the NDAA into law soon.
