MILLINOCKET, Maine — More than 3,600 Emera Maine customers in northern Penobscot County were without power Thursday, according to Emera Maine.

Towns impacted include Millinocket, Seboeis, Cedar Lake Township, Indian Purchase and several unorganized territories.

As of noon Thursday, approximately 3,687 customers in the Millinocket area were without power. The outages were caused by a squirrel coming in contact with equipment.

The outages also are affecting students in the area — Millinocket’s schools are without power.

According to the Millinocket School Department, schools closed for the day at 10 a.m.
