UNION, Maine — Searchers were able to find an 82-year-old man Sunday morning who had wandered away from an elderly housing facility.
A game warden located Gordon Stiles of Union shortly before 8 a.m. Sunday near a camp off Middle Road in Union. Stiles had left Crawford Commons at 11 p.m. Saturday.
Stiles was cold but was able to respond to his rescuers, said Knox County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Tim Carroll. The man was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport for evaluation.
Knox County, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, state game wardens and the Union Fire Department searched throughout the night.
Carroll said a resident on Middle Road flagged down the game warden to report that he saw a man near the camp. The warden checked it out and found Stiles who was dressed in a sweatshirt and pajama bottoms.
Temperatures overnight dipped to about freezing.
The camp was about a mile-and-a-half from Crawford Commons. Crawford Commons has both assisted living and independent living, according to its website.
