PORTLAND, Maine — The Portland Fire Department is investigating a fire that occurred early Saturday evening at a three-story apartment building at 165 Brackett St., across from Howard C. Reiche Community School.
The fire was reported shortly after 6:30 p.m., Assistant Chief Keith Gautreau said Monday in a news release.
As crews arrived, they discovered a large volume of fire coming from the rear of the building on all three floors, Gautreau said. The fire was extinguished in less than an hour.
While no one was injured, one dog was found dead on the third floor, Gautreau said.
He said there was moderate damage to all three apartments and minor damage to an attached single-family home.
Fire investigators were at the scene Saturday night and determined the blaze started on the second floor exterior of the building. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Investigators will be meeting at the scene with the insurance company’s fire investigators on Wednesday to gather more information, according to the news release.
