AUGUSTA, Maine — A Portland physician has been placed on probation for five years after ingesting medicine intended for a relative and reporting to work with the substance in his system.
Bruce Manley must also pay a $1,000 fine in addition to his license being on probation for five years, according to a statement from the Maine Board of Licensure in Medicine.
Manley, who was undergoing monitoring for substance abuse, tested positive for the undisclosed substance and his employment was subsequently terminated, according to the statement.
Manley’s probation states he must participate in the Medical Professionals Health Program.
