ALFRED, Maine — A Windham man was indicted by a York County grand jury in connection with a police pursuit in August.

Clifford Perkins, 32, is charged with eluding, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and assault on a police officer, all Class C felonies.

Perkins allegedly was under the influence of heroin when York County sheriff’s deputies pursued him through multiple towns in August. The chase ended when Perkins crashed his car into a stone wall.

The series of events started when police were called to a Parsonsfield store, where Perkins apparently was passed out in his vehicle. He started the vehicle and drove off when a sheriff’s deputy attempted to remove the keys.

The deputy’s arm was still inside the vehicle when Perkins drove off. The pursuit lasted 24 miles, and Perkins fled into a field after crashing his car but was subdued with a Taser.

If convicted, Perkins faces up to five years in prison on each charge.
