FARGO, North Dakota — The University of Maine Black Bears turned in an accurate shooting performance to roll by the North Dakota State Bison 82-51 in women’s basketball action Sunday.

The Bears (2-2) hit 34 of 51 shots (66.7) from the field, including 9 of 15 from 3-point land (60 percent). They also canned 5 of 6 free throws.

Guard Sigi Koizar sparked the Bears by posting her second career double-double with 16 points and 10 assists. It was her ninth straight game hitting double-figure scoring and she also chipped in with seven steals and six rebounds.

Guard Sophie Weckstrom added to the Maine attack with 15 points while forwards Bella Swan and Liz Wood added 14 and 11, respectively. Wood moved by Bracey Barker for 13th all-time in career points at UMaine with 1,169 and also is now 10th in rebounding with 666.

Forward Brianna Jones paced the Bison (2-2) with 14 points and guard Kennedy Childers added 13.

The Bears surged to a 21-5 lead at the end of the first quarter behind eight points from Wood and five from Chantel Charles.

Maine outscored the Bison 22-16 in the second quarter and surged to a 20-point margin late in the half when Koizar and Wood hit back-to-back 3-pointers.

The Bears used a 10-2 scoring surge to up their lead to 31 in the fourth quarter.

Maine forward Mikaela Gustafsson chipped in with nine points and five rebounds, gaining a 21-20 team rebounding edge over the Bison. Guard Lauren Bodine contributed with eight points and five assists.

The Black Bears return home to face Central Connecticut State at noon Wednesday at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
