WESTBROOK, Maine — A local transient was arrested Sunday in connection with a robbery of Rite Aid on Main Street, police said.

Mark Lyon, 62, had allegedly brandished a knife when confronted by store staff in the parking lot, Westbrook police Capt. Sean Lally said.

The robbery was reported shortly after 4 p.m. when Lyon concealed merchandise and left the store before being confronted in the parking lot.

Lyon fled after brandishing the knife in a threatening manner, but was found hiding behind some trash cans nearby, Lally said.

The knife was recovered and Lyon was arrested.

Lyon was charged with robbery, criminal threatening and felony theft. He was taken to the Cumberland County Jail.

Lyon has a criminal history dating back to 1970.
