PITTSTON, Maine — An 83-year-old local man was struck and killed by a vehicle on Route 194 Monday evening, according to the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.

The man, whose identity was not disclosed, died at the scene shortly after 5 p.m., according to Interim Sheriff Ryan Reardon.

The driver of the vehicle, a 61-year-old woman, was not injured, according to Reardon. The driver was not believed to have been intoxicated.

A nurse was at the scene before rescue workers could arrive and tended to the man, who did not regain consciousness, Reardon said.

The accident remains under investigation.
