FORT KENT, Maine — A list of 46 candidates for president of the University of Maine at Fort Kent has been narrowed down to four finalists, the school announced Tuesday.
The finalists are Sharon Hart, president of the Northern Marianas College; Michael Laliberte, vice chancellor of student affairs and enrollment management at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee; Lenore Koczon, vice president for academic affairs at Minot State University in North Dakota; and John Short, chief executive officer and dean of the University of Wisconsin Fond du Lac.
“We are pleased that so many talented, proven educational leaders expressed an interest in serving as the next president of the University of Maine at Fort Kent,” Norman Fournier, University of Maine System trustee and chair of the presidential search committee, said in a statement. “Our campus leadership team and our community stakeholders have worked hard to establish UMFK as Maine’s rural university and as a service leader in the St. John Valley. All that has been accomplished here represents a great foundation for success for the next president of the university.”
Each finalist will visit the campus in December for interviews and to meet with students, faculty and staff.
Hart will be on campus Dec. 1 and 2. She also has served as deputy president of University College of the Caribbean and holds a doctorate in education from the University of Illinois.
Short will visit Dec. 3 and 4. He also was dean and associate dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Millersville University of Pennsylvania and holds a doctorate in government from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Laliberte will visit UMFK Dec. 7 and 8. He also served as vice president for student affairs and enrollment management at Boise State University in Idaho and holds a doctorate in education from Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island.
Koczon will be on campus Dec. 10 and 11. She previously served as academic dean at Rosemont College in Pennsylvania and director of University College at Northern State University of Aberdeen, South Dakota. She holds a doctorate in chemistry from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
