ROCKLAND, Maine — A Portland man is facing an additional felony charge after police said he assaulted and injured another inmate at the Knox County Jail.

Joshua McGee, 32, was charged with aggravated assault.

The other inmate suffered a compound fracture to his arm and was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, according to jail officials.

Sheriff Donna Dennison said both McGee and the victim told officers they had been wrestling. Other inmates said they did not see anything occur.

But a review of video at the jail led Deputy Paul Spear to charge McGee. An affidavit filed in court by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office stated that in the video the two men appeared to have exchanged words and then McGee walked into the victim’s cell. The two could be seen fighting and then they emerged from the cell with the victim holding his arm, according to the affidavit.

At the time of the alleged assault, McGee was being held at the jail for an alleged violation of failing to register as a sex offender. He remains incarcerated there on the new charge.
