SANFORD, Maine — Police are searching for a man who attempted to rob the Super 8 motel at knifepoint on Main Street on Tuesday night.

The attempted robbery occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m., Sanford police Sgt. Craig Andersen said.

The suspect reportedly displayed his weapon and demanded money from the clerk, but she failed to cooperate, Andersen said.

The clerk locked herself in a back room and called 911, and the man fled the motel, the sergeant said.

The suspect was wearing a horizontal stripe dark blue-and-grey hoodie, which was cinched closed around his face during the robbery attempt.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Sanford police at 324-3644.
