YORK, Maine — York police are investigating several car burglaries this week and reminding drivers to lock their car doors.

York Police Sgt. Brian Curtin says Thanksgiving morning, several residents on Harvest Lane woke up with items removed from their unlocked vehicles, including a shotgun, rifle and loaded semiautomatic handgun.

“It’s very concerning, especially if it’s a loaded firearm,” Curtin says.

Police say these are crimes of opportunity and the easiest way to prevent them is to lock your car doors.

“People aren’t going to take the time to smash your window out, they’re just going to enter the unlocked car and take what they find,” Curtin says.
