WATERVILLE, Maine — Soccer players “shined on for Cass” Friday evening in memory of their friend and former teammate, Cassidy Charette.

The 17-year-old star soccer player at Messalonskee High School died in a hayride crash in 2014. This is the second year alumni players have come together to raise money for a scholarship in Charette’s name — a chance to bring friends and family together.

“Bringing that community together at Thanksgiving is a great time to do it when we are all home with our families,” said co-organizer and friend of Cassidy, Shawna Oliver. “And just to bring us together and shine her light a little bit more.”

This year the guys joined in on the game. The organizers say they hoped to raise more than the $900 they raised last year.
