PORTLAND, Maine — A man from the Sunshine State was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court to five years of probation for failing to pay child support, according to the U.S attorney’s office.
Glen S. Caristinos, 49, of Safety Harbor, Florida, also was ordered to pay $117,601 in restitution for back child support.
Caristinos pleaded guilty July 3 to one count of failure to pay child support, according to information posted on the court’s electronic case filing system.
The Maine Department of Health and Human Services on Oct. 31, 2001, ordered Caristinos to pay his ex-wife $248 per week toward the support of their minor child, according to a press release issued Monday. That support order was increased to $303 per week on Oct. 10, 2003. A Maine District Court judge ordered those payments continue until the minor reached the age of 18.
Caristinos made inconsistent payments between 2001 and 2005, the U.S. attorney’s office said. In December 2005, he moved to Florida and virtually ceased making payments.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General and the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, Child Support Enforcement Unit.
