BANGOR, Maine — With the calendar flipped to December, the city of Bangor’s holiday tree was delivered like clockwork Tuesday morning to West Market Square.

The 32-foot-tall Balsam fir came from land owned by Allison Keef of Hermon, according to Dan Sprague, co-owner of Sprague’s Nursery and Garden Center in Bangor. Sprague purchased the tree from Keef, cut it down, donated it to the city, then delivered it to its downtown destination.

“I counted the rings this morning, and it’s about 32 years old,” Sprague said while Bangor Public Works employees prepared to secure the tree in a concrete stand.

Emera Maine donated a crane to lift the tree into place.

The tree will be strung with lights in preparation for Saturday’s big event, when it will be lit following the Bangor Rotary Festival of Lights Parade. The parade begins at 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of State and Exchange streets.
