THOMASTON, Maine — A Warren man was arrested last week after police said he stole more than $1,000 from the local Wal-Mart while working as a cashier.

Paul S. Giansiracusa, 33, was charged with felony theft and taken to the Knox County Jail in Rockland before being released on bail.

A police affidavit filed in Knox County Unified Court details the investigation which began when Wal-Mart security staff found discrepancies in the cash registers manned by Giansiracusa. A review of store security videos found that the suspect was taking money, according to the affidavit.

Thomaston police Sgt. Tim Hoppe said an estimated $1,200 was taken from Aug. 27 through Sept. 1.

Giansiracusa denied taking the money when confronted. Police obtained an arrest warrant and picked him up on Thanksgiving Day and he was released on bail later that day.
