ALBANY, New York — Joe McCloskey scored 15 of his 17 points when the University of Maine-Fort Kent Bengals outscored the Albany College of Pharmacy 54-29 in the second half to record an 81-61 men’s basketball victory over the Panthers Friday night.

McCloskey also recorded seven rebounds, three assists and three steals for UMFK, now 7-7. Qaadir Ali chipped in with 17 points while Marquis Glenn contributed 10 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. Roosevelt Smith added 12 points and nine rebounds.

UMFK trailed after the first half 32-27.

Brandon Votra paced the Panthers (4-2) with 19 points and Alex Johnson added 16.

Castleton 98, UMF 71

At Castleton, Vermont, Rob Coloutti poured in 26 points to spearhead the Spartans to a North Atlantic Conference win over the Beavers.

Tondi Mushandu logged a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds for Castleton State (3-3, 2-0 NAC), while Pavin Parrish scored 13 points and Kyle Adams added 12. The Spartans made 15 3-pointers.

Nick Hilton paced the University of Maine-Farmington (0-5, 0-2 NAC) with 20 points. Eric Berry and Anfernee Dent contributed 12 and 10 points, respectively.

GMC 100, Thomas 78

At Poultney, Vermont, Cameron Anderson’s 23-point, seven-rebound performance carried Green Mountain College to a North Atlantic Conference victory over Thomas College of Waterville.

Thomas Brown registered 19 points and eight rebounds and Darius Wynn added 10 points for Green Mountain (5-1, 2-0 NAC).

Levi Barnes sparked the Terriers (2-5, 0-2 NAC) with 22 points and Carlos Gonzalez provided 10 points and eight rebounds.

Pittsburgh 96, Duquesne 75

Led by the formidable tandem of Justin Robinson and Michael Young, Pittsburgh used a blistering start to defeat cross-town rival Duquesne 96-75 on Friday.

Robinson, a senior guard, paved the way with 18 points, including 14 with four three-pointers in the decisive first half. He also chipped in eight assists with no turnovers.

Young, the Panthers’ leading scorer, had 20 points, 11 boards, and four assists. Robinson and Young were two of five Panthers to score in double figures.

Pittsburgh (4-1) torched the Dukes (6-1) right from the opening tap, jumping out to a 28-12 lead. The Panthers carried a 57-30 lead into halftime.

Sophomore guard Eric James posted a career-high 21 points while guard Derrick Colter contributed 15 for Duquesne.

The victory gives Pitt a 53-31 lead in the series which is annual rivalry dubbed the “City Game.”

Maryland 96, St. Francis (Pa.) 55

Forward Robert Carter had a season-high 20 points and forward Jake Layman scored 16 to lead No. 2 Maryland to a 96-55 victory over visiting St. Francis (Pa.) on Friday night in College Park, Md.

Freshman Diamond Stone also had a season-high 16 points for the Terrapins, who extended their home winning streak to 18 games.

Guard Ben Millaud-Meunier had 13 points for St. Francis, which is 3-4 and has lost all four of its road games this season. Forward Ronnie Drinnon added 11 points with 10 rebounds for the Red Flash.

Maryland never trailed and a jumper by Stone provided the Terps with a 32-12 lead with 4:13 left in the half. The Terrapins continued to pull away and opened a 45-24 lead at the break.

A 3-pointer by guard Melo Trimble boosted the margin to 53-28 with 15:51 left in the game. From that point, Maryland coach Mark Turgeon was able to play his reserves.

Maryland suffered its first loss of the season on Dec. 1 against No. 9 North Carolina in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Maryland will face another tough test against Connecticut in the Jimmy V Classic in New York on Tuesday.

Women’s Basketball

Colby 72, UMFK 53

At Waterville, Haley Driscoll scored 16 points and Emily Davis netted 15 to pace the Mules to victory over the Bengals in the first round of the Colby Classic.

Mia Diplock (5 steals, 4 assists) and Carylanne Wolfington each scored 10 points for 5-1 Colby.

Ericka Saucier led the University of Maine-Fort Kent with 17 points and nine rebounds. Romanalyn Inocencio added 11 points and a game-high seven assists and Danielle Carrillo finished with eight points and six rebounds.

Thomas 71, Green Mountain 61

At Poultney, Vermont, Katie McAllister poured in 27 points to power the Terriers of Waterville to the victory.

McAllister hit 10 of 12 shots from the foul line and also had nine rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots as Thomas improved to 2-4. Ashleigh Gagne and Tess McClenahan each chipped in with 12 points. McClenahan also had seven assists and two steals.

Mercedes Rideout paced Green Mountain (0-5) with 17 points and Sherelle Jackson added 10.

UMF 76, Castleton 72

At Castleton, Vermont, UMaine-Farmington’s Kennadi Grover and Elizabeth Ferry hit back-to-back jumpers to give the Beavers a 71-69 lead with 2:53 left and they held off the Spartans for the victory in North Atlantic Conference action.

Neither team could score over the next two minutes and Ferry sank two free throws with 33 seconds left to secure the win for UMF.

Meghan Smith recorded 19 points, 11 rebounds and three assists to lead UMF (2-4, 1-1 NAC). Kelly Pomerleau chipped in with 15 points while Ferry finished with 14 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots. She hit 6 of 6 free throws.

Ali Jones paced Castleton (5-1, 1-1 NAC) with 20 points, Lindsay Sabo added 16 and Jade Desroches put in 13.
