BERWICK, Maine — Berwick police are asking for the public’s help to find the driver who struck and killed a service dog while on Cemetery Road on Saturday afternoon.
According to the Berwick Police Department’s Facebook page, Sophia, a 7-year-old German shepherd, was struck around 12:15 p.m. Saturday. Sophia was a disabled veteran’s service dog. The dog’s owner was getting his mail when the accident happened.
Police said the suspect vehicle is described as a 1990s vintage beige or tan Buick or Oldsmobile sedan. The driver slowed down but drove off at a high rate of speed toward Pine Hill Road.
