PORTLAND, Maine — A renewable energy company wants to turn some of Portland’s public places into power plants.

Renewable Energy Development Associates says they’ve pitched a plan to City Hall to build five tracking solar arrays in places like Payson Park.

The solar panels aren’t cheap but organizers say over time they pay for themselves. “The solar production is offsetting or near to offsetting the payments on the project,” said Will Kessler with Renewable Energy Development Associates.

Kessler says the reception from city leaders has been generally positive.
