BRUNSWICK, Maine — The Bowdoin College Polar Bears jumped out to a 22-8 lead at the end of the first quarter en route to a 79-38 women’s basketball victory over the University of Maine-Farmington Beavers Wednesday night.

Shannon Brady sparked Bowdoin (5-2) with 17 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots. Lauren Petit chipped in with 14 points, six steals and two assists while Marle Curle and Abigail Kelly each netted nine points.

Bowdoin outrebounded UMF 44-38 and held the Beavers to a 29.5 percent shooting effort from the field (13 of 44).

Meghan Smith paced UMF with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Cheyenne Malloy added seven points and Kelly Pomerleau had five assists.

Men’s Basketball

Thomas 91, UMA 83

At Waterville, Tyheem Simon came off the bench to connect on 12 of 16 shots from the floor and finished with 28 points to lead the Terriers by the University of Maine Augusta.

UMA took a one-point halftime lead, but Thomas outscored the Moose 52-43 in the second half.

Carlos Gonzalez chipped in with 22 points and 13 rebounds for Thomas (4-5) while Adam Carlsen added 15 points.

Dallas Murray and Brandon Rogers each scored 21 points to lead UMA (6-8). Keith Chesley added 12 points and 10 rebounds and Caleb McGuire had 11 points.

Providence 66, Boston College 51

Ben Bentil had 16 points and eight rebounds before sustaining a first-half injury, and an illness sidelined Kris Dunn for the second half, but No. 15 Providence held on for a 66-51 victory over Boston College on Wednesday night at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, R.I.

Bentil, a sophomore forward, apparently hurt his left leg after missing a jumper with 1:56 to play in the first half. He limped to the locker room and did not return.

Dunn, a senior guard and the Friars’ leading scorer, started and played 15 minutes in the first half. He finished with four points and three assists.

Sophomore forward Rodney Bullock had 17 points and seven boards for the Friars (9-1).

Eli Carter, a graduate student guard, scored 15 points for Boston College (3-6), which lost its sixth straight.

Bentil scored 11 of his team’s first 16 points as Providence built a 17-point advantage in the first half and led 37-23 at the break. Without Bentil and Dunn on the floor, the Eagles pulled within 46-41 with 8:10 left, but Providence responded with a 20-10 run to close out the game.
