BANGOR — The Bangor Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registrations for its 2015-2016 Youth Basketball Program. This eight-week program is open to all children in grades two-three and four-six, with separate boys and girls leagues. Teams will practice one evening per week and play their games on Saturdays, starting the week of Dec. 19. The fee is $45 for residents and $55 for non-residents. GOLF
A fundraising event for First Tee of Maine will be underway at Uno’s restaurants in South Portland and Bangor on Dec. 13 when both restaurants will be donating 20 percent of guests’ checks to the organization. The funds are put toward First Tee scholarships, equipment and toward creating more opportunities for kids through golf.
ICE HOCKEY
ORONO — Domino’s Pizza presents the the Friends of Maine Hockey’s annual “Skate with the Bears” on Saturday, Dec. 12 with the 2015-2016 University of Maine men’s and women’s hockey teams Alfond Arena from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. This family event is a great opportunity for fans of all ages to meet the players and have their pictures taken. Friends of Maine Hockey board members will be on hand to answer questions, sign up new members and will have Boxes of Player Cards available. Domino’s will provide free pizza while hot cocoa, coffee and donuts will be provided by your local Dunkin’ Donuts. This event is free and open to the public.
SIDNEY — Maine Pond Hockey Classic, Feb. 12-14, 2016, at Snow Pond Center for the Arts on Snow Pond (Messalonskee Lake). The site will contain six or more rinks, beer garden, fire pits and food vendors. It will offer seven divisions for players of different ages and ability levels. The Maine Pond Hockey Classic is an annual fundraising tournament supporting the Boys and Girls Clubs and YMCA of Greater Waterville. Registration is underway. BRUNSWICK — The Bowdoin College men’s and women’s ice hockey teams will host their annual “Skate With the Polar Bears” food drive noon-2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, at Sidney J. Watson Arena, 27 Watson Drive. Admission to the open skate is one non-perishable food item or paper product to be donated to the local food bank. The free skate is open to all ages. Children are encouraged to bring a protective helmet and a marker to get autographs from their favorite Polar Bears; autograph sheets will be provided.

WATERVILLE — Maine Softball Coaches Association will offer a coaches clinic 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at Alfond Center, Thomas College. Instructors will include Kaitlin Cochran, Lisa-Ann Wallace, Terry Parlin, Ryan Sullivan and Nick Caiazzo, who will teach hitting, base running, bunting, vision training, catching mechanics and drills, pitching, and organizing drills.
