ROCKLAND, Maine — A Rockland woman is facing additional jail time after she failed to show up last month to begin serving a nine-month sentence.

Suzanne M. Gardner, 49, was arrested early Friday morning and charged with failure to report.

A Knox County jury convicted Gardner on Nov. 12 of operating a motor vehicle after her license had been revoked for being a habitual offender. Justice Daniel Billings sentenced her to nine months and one day in jail and fined her $1,000.

Gardner requested and the judge agreed to let her begin her sentence on Nov. 27.

On Nov. 22, Gardner requested an additional stay of the jail sentence through the holidays. She wrote to the judge that this time of year was when she makes money through wreath making with her family. She also said she has recently become the guardian of a grandchild and she wanted to spend the holidays with that child.

The district attorney’s office objected to another stay and Justice Billings rejected Gardner’s request.

The jail reported that Gardner failed to report on Nov. 27 and an arrest warrant was issued. She was apprehended Friday morning and brought to the county jail.

She is scheduled to make an initial appearance Friday afternoon in Knox County Unified Court on the failure to report charge.
