BANGOR, Maine — The men charged with selling heroin in Mattawamkeag remained Monday night at the Penobscot County Jail unable to post $50,000 cash or $150,000 surety bail.

Ryan Schiller, 31, of Mattawamkeag and Paul Bone, 30, of Dorchester, Massachusetts, were arrested Friday at a home on Hathaway Road in Mattawamkeag with 270 bags of heroin, according to the affidavit. They made their first court appearances Monday at the Penobscot Judicial Center.

Bone is charged with two counts of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, a Class A crime. Schiller is charged with one count each of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, a Class A crime, and possession of scheduled drugs, a Class C crime.

Neither man was asked to enter pleas to the charges because they have not yet been indicted by the Penobscot County grand jury. The are next due in court on Feb. 3.

The men were arrested after a confidential informant for the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency on Friday made a controlled purchase of heroin from Schiller, according to the affidavit.

Schiller has two previous convictions for drug trafficking in Maine, it said. He had been released from prison on Oct. 9.

Bone has three prior drug convictions out of Androscoggin County, the affidavit said. Information about when he was released was not included in court documents.

If convicted on the Class A counts, each man faces up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.
