ROCKPORT, Maine — The Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce has sold property it acquired a year ago at the busy intersection of Routes 1 and 90.
Executive Director Thomas Peaco said the chamber had looked at building on the property — a little more than five acres — but determined that the cost would have been too much.
The chamber sold the land on Friday to Bay View Landing LLC, which consists of local developers Stuart, Marianne and Tyler Smith. No sale price was disclosed, but the town has the property assessed at about $250,000.
A telephone message left with the Smiths late Tuesday morning was not immediately returned.
The land was donated to the Chamber in December 2014 by Bettina Doulton, who owns Cellardoor Winery in Lincolnville. Cellardoor has its vineyard and winery on Youngtown Road in Lincolnville. The company also has a tasting room and gift shop across the street in Rockport from where the donated land is located.
The chamber has offices located at 1 Park Drive in Rockland and at the public landing in Camden. The organization is the result of a 2011 merger of the Rockland-Thomaston Area Chamber and the Camden-Rockport-Lincolnville Chamber, which had a combined membership of about 1,000.
